Leak Detection Done Right

How do I know I have a leak?

Sherlock Leak Detectives recommends looking for these clues when you suspect having a water leak:

Water meter running when no water is being used. Turn off all faucets and water fixtures (don’t forget toilets, pool auto fill, and ice maker), then check if the main water meter, usually located in the sidewalk in front of the house, is spinning.
If the little triangle is spinning when no water is being used, it’s time to call Sherlock Leak Detectives to locate your underground leak.

Sound of running water when no water is being used. Do you hear the sound of running water when all the faucets and water fixtures are off? You may hear a high pitch hiss sometimes only at night when it is quiet. Don’t ignore this; it may be a clue of an underground leak.

A high-water bill or gradual increasing monthly water bills. Leaks can start small and gradually increase in size causing extensive loss of water. Pay attention to your monthly water bill, an average family of three uses 8 to 10 thousand gallons a month, (excluding irrigation). If you suspect an unexplained increase in your water bill, it is time to check for unseen water leaks.

Floors or walls are wet, damp or discolored. We know, it’s a terrible feeling, but these clues have to be taken seriously and inspected before further damage occurs, you may have an unseen leak in your walls or under the floor.

Floors or walls have “hot spots” or unexplained cracks. Hot water leaks may cause patches of flooring to feel warmer. Water saturated soil can cause movement of structure causing cracks in the floor, walls and ceiling. These clues may indicate there is an underground water leak.

Hardwood floor cupping. Moisture form a slab leak can penetrate through the concrete and cause wood floor cupping which in time can cause severe damage to your home. Call us as soon as you suspect these alarming signs to verify the cause of damage and locate your leak.

Smell of mold, mildew or sewer odor in the house. There are times when you can only “smell” that something is wrong. Water leaks can cause the growth of mold, whereas sewer leaks may have a strong smell of sewer.

Did you know? Even a small pinhole in your pipe can leak more than 30,000 gallons of water a month. Just imagine a big swimming pool under your house.

Highly Rated

Ron checked for water leaks, he was extremely informative and very proactive in his work. He answered all my questions and even offered a referral, whom he called while at my home to explain the problem. I highly recommend Sherlock Leak Detectives for their performance quality and for taking some of the mystery out of the water repair.
